Disaster relief in Kenya
Shelterboxes arrive to help the victims of the drought in the horn of Africa

Organisation:Shelterbox
Country:
Worldwide
Project:
Disaster relief

Shelterbox provide emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters at a time when they need it most.

Shelterbox have tracking systems in place that allow them to anticipate and react to disasters throughout the globe, with the aim to have a shipment of boxes dispatched to an area within 2-3 days, where it is met by a Shelterbox Response Team.

The contents of the boxes have been updated and improved over the years since Shelterbox was founded in 2000 and they include vital articles such as a 10 man tent, cooking utensils and even some children's packs among the numerous useful items. It is all packed into a durable, lightweight, waterproof box that can be used for many things, from storing food to a baby's cot as the situation dictates. The box's contents are altered according to the region they are to be deployed.

Stocks of boxes are stored at strategic locations across the globe, including Melbourne, Panama, Dubai, Singapore and Nairobi, to ensure the response is as quick as possible as time is crucial in any disaster relief effort.

Adsum provided funding for boxes to help the flood victims in Pakistan and Colombia which provided shelter, security and temporary accommodation for families who had lost everything. Most recently we funded boxes sent to Kenya to help victims of the famine and drought in East Africa.
