Location
The three schools are in the Itasy and Analamanga regions of Madagascar. Two are in Itasy, while Ambohijafy II is in Analamanga.
Beneficiaries
The new water points provide safe drinking water for 882 pupils and teachers across the three schools.
Objectives
The project is part of Adsum’s wider work to make sure every school we have helped to build has access to a safe water system. Working with MfM and AMI, the project aimed to improve water access at the schools and create healthier places for children to learn.
Project Background
Before the new water points were installed, the schools had problems getting safe and reliable water. At some schools, the water was not safe to drink, and during the dry season there was sometimes no water at all. Pupils and families often had to bring water from home or collect it from other places.
New wells with hand pumps, water tanks and taps for handwashing were installed at each school, giving pupils and teachers safe water close to where they learn and work.
The End Result
The new water points now give pupils and teachers safe drinking water at school. Children can also wash their hands more easily, helping to improve health and hygiene.
Each school has a water committee to help look after the water point and keep it working well for the future.
