Success Story

Ambinanindranotelo

In 2022, with support from external donors, Feedback Madagascar and Ny Tanintsika installed a new borehole at Ambinanindranotelo Primary School. The water point now provides clean drinking water for pupils and the wider community, improving health and hygiene after the cyclones.

Location

Ambinanindranotelo Primary School is in Ambiabe rural municipality, Ifanadiana district, in the Vatovavy region of southeast Madagascar.

Beneficiaries

The new water point serves 425 pupils at the school (278 boys and 207 girls), along with 154 people from 52 nearby households, including 30 children under five.

Objectives

The project aimed to provide safe drinking water for pupils and nearby households, improve hygiene, reduce waterborne illness, and support cyclone recovery. It also helped build local capacity through WASH training and environmental protection activities.

Project Background

After Cyclones Batsirai and Emnati hit in early 2022, access to clean water became a priority in Ambinanindranotelo. In October 2022, a borehole and hand-pump were installed at the school. The project was led by Feedback Madagascar – Ny Tanintsika, with strong local involvement. Community members helped transport materials, took part in hygiene awareness sessions, and formed a water management committee. Food support was also provided during the installation.

The End Result

The borehole now provides clean water each day for the school and surrounding households. It supports better hygiene, safer food preparation, and improved health. A trained local committee manages the water point, with measures in place to protect the nearby environment.
