Location
Morarano is a village in the Itasy region of Madagascar. Children from Morarano and nearby villages attend the school, with some travelling long distances each day.
Beneficiaries
The new school benefits 130 pupils aged between 3 and 16.
It also gives younger children from Morarano and nearby villages better access to education as they reach school age.
Objectives
To build a safe and well-equipped learning environment for primary school children, increase school capacity, and improve teaching and learning conditions for both pupils and staff.
Project Background
The original school was built by local villagers in 1980 using mud and thatch. Over the years, the building became badly damaged. The roof leaked during the rainy season, and the two classrooms were overcrowded.
Children of different ages often had to learn together, and the school had limited access to toilets and water.
The End Result
The new school gives children a safe and comfortable place to learn, with better classrooms and facilities than they had before.
Children now have more space to learn and develop their reading, writing and maths skills. The new school also gives teachers a better place to teach, helping children get the most from their time at school.
