400 Bikes set sail for Madagascar

400 Bikes set sail for Madagascar

Hardly room to move at our bike collection point!

An overwhelming response to our Bikes for Madagascar programme saw us exceed our target of 400 bikes, which means we are well placed to keep it going for phase two!

In conjunction with our partners Bike Aid Africa, and thanks to the generosity of you guys, the public,  who donated over 500 bikes to the cause, we were able to send a container crammed full of bikes and other useful stuff to our partner in the south of the country.

These bikes will be distributed to needy communities to help people reach medical attention faster, as well as helping teachers travel further afield to improve literacy in the region.

This was made possible by donations of road worthy bikes by our supporters old and new, and these were worked on by Bike Aid Africa and volunteers from Phoenix Cycling Club so that by the end of September we had a container full ready for the high seas.

And thanks to the overwhelming response to our raffle to raise funds to send the container out, we hit our target and the next step will be the distribution of the bikes starting in the new year after the container arrives later this month.

Thanks again to everyone who bought tickets and contributed to our fundraising for the project, and congratulations to the Keystone Group who were lucky enough to win the luxury hotel stay at the Fitzwilliam Hotel, Belfast!

Such was the success of the project we are now onto phase two and are doing the same again, this time hoping to send out two containers, so watch this space!
