Water for Antanivelona

Water for Antanivelona

Antanivelona village is located in Ambinitromby in the Ikongo district of Vatovavy Fitovinany region of south east Madagascar. Prior to 5th August the community didn't have access to safe and clean water.

Almost 300 primary school children and their teachers at Antanivelona Primary previously had to fetch water from the large nearby river which is visibly dirty and contaminated. So too did the 496 village residents.

Charlotte Saholy a teacher at Antanivelona highlighted the need for a borehole well stating;

"We requested help for clean drinking water in light of our dreadful water situation here at the school. Poor water quality causes many diseases."

The installation of a well at Antanivelona Primary was strongly sought after by the school staff who, after recently installing latrines are keen to adopt key WASH messages.

Thanks to the support of our donors and funds raised by local businesses at our corporate quiz, two wells were installed. One at the primary school and one in the village benefitting hundreds of people, young and old.

For this rural community in Madagascar, daily life has changed dramatically.

"Having this borehole is very important to us and for the pupils at the Primary School. Thank you so much for your help.” RAVAO Christine (President of the Women's Association in Antanivelona)
